5.2.11 ~ 122/365

02 May

After reading Scott Kelby’s Understanding Exposure months ago, I’ve been patiently counting down the days until Summer arrives so I could go down to the boardwalk and take pictures of all the amusement rides lit up. I guess Phriend had the same thought in mind because when she realized she had a few free hours last night, taking pictures on the boardwalk was the first thing that came to her mind. We got to the boardwalk just as the sun was setting, and to our disappointment, the rides were not operational yet. Not to worry- we always joke we could always find something to take a picture of- so we walked the boards, “interacted” with the colorful locals (that’s just my nice way of saying “avoided the drunken teenagers”…), practiced “panning” on the carousel and walked around the arcades.

As we were leaving, I was drawn to the dark, desolate, closed amusement area and took a bunch of pictures- a stark contrast to what it’ll look like in a few weeks!

And one more picture~ because I want to say Happy Birthday Phriend!

Thank you for the birthday wishes! It is always a pleasure to be out photographing together. You help to push me to try new and creative photography skills and to take a new look at things around me. Can’t wait for the piers to open and the full cast of characters to arrive. That will present a whole new group of photo oportunities.

Love the wide angle!! Great shots! That book is on my TBR pile… maybe this summer I’ll actually get a chance to read it…
