For months, Phriend and I have been “daydreaming” of all the places we could visit when the weather finally warms, and one of the places on our wishlist was Grounds for Sculpture, a sort of outdoor sculpture museum- which we visited today. It’s situated in an expansive park with meandering pathways that lead you to all sorts of different sculptures. Some are life-sized recreations of famous pieces (think Renoir’s “The Boating Party” or Monet’s “Woman with Parasol in a Field of Poppies”) and some are more modern or contemporary pieces.
This is one of my favorite pieces– in the background, there is an “Impressionist” scene taking place, with a couple standing by the water, another couple sitting a few feet behind them, a boat out in the water, etc, but then if you walk up a set of stairs, you come across another sculpture, partially hidden by the foliage, and he’s painting the scene that is taking place in front of him! I just love how this “inanimate art” can be interacting with each other.
