6.27.11 ~ 178/365

28 Jun

In two weeks, my sister and I are entering a large sand sculpture contest which is held annualy at the Jersey Shore. We’ve never entered before, but are excited for this year’s competition! We spent a few days brainstorming, as well as researching how to build sand sculptures, including some helpful “tools” to have, and finally came up with our idea.
Since we’ve never done anything like this before, we decided that a “dry run” was in order to make sure that we could actually execute our creation- so off to the beach we went today with bags of shovels, buckets, water squirt bottles, etc.
After three and a half hours, lots of “sand burns” (kneeling in the sand for that long does a number on your knees!) and some careful planning, we had our sculpture!
I’m not going to share excacly what it is today, because hopefully our real sculpture at the contest will be better, but here’s just one aspect of it.
