7.8.11 ~ 189/365

09 Jul

Today marks a day in the “space history books”- at 11:26 (which ended up being closer to 11:30 because of a delay) the final space shuttle launched from Cape Canaveral, FL.
I sat on the floor in front of the tv just like I did when I was younger, and watched with just as much awe as I did 20 years ago. I have a (very) distant cousin who is an astronaut, and when I was younger, I too wanted to be an astronaut. I was obsessed with all things space– constellations, planets, and even freeze dried ice cream. It’s sad that there’s a whole new generation of kids who will never get to see a shuttle launch or aspire to be an astronaut when they grow up.

As for my photo- yeah- I took a picture of the tv screen. Taken with my iPhone (seriously- I’ve been photo slacking lately! I promise- a real SLR picture will be shown tomorrow) and edited with Instagram.

Never say never…..you don’t actually believe that’s the last shuttle do you? I mean….when money isn’t an issue with government anymore….later on….I’m sure they’ll want to go explore space again….hahaha

We were right there with you… still watching off and on what they’re up to up there. It’s quite sad to see the end of the shuttle, BUT we’re holding out hope that they will come up with a much better way to travel over the coming years… my son is already working on the plans!! =P

Two of my BIL’s were there; they said it was amazing! I love that you took this photo with your phone; it is what IS in your life right now and that’s what this project is all about.
