8.7.11 ~ 219/365

One of the annual traditions in my town is the “Night of Lights” boat parade, where individuals decorate their boats and “parade” down the river and compete for prizes in different categories. I’ve gone before, but was never able to get a good picture– until now– enter the D7000 with its ISO capabilites of 128000! I made sure to shoot them on RAW so I could get rid of any noise after the fact, but I was pleasantly surprised to find very little noise at all– in fact, the images barely needed any editing at all!

The boat on the left was one of my favorites from the night- they decorated their boat to look like a pirate ship, they had music from Pirates of the Caribbean playing, fake cannon blasts and fireworks, and all the people on the boat were dressed like pirates– I’m willing to bet they took first place!

We do that in Vancouver but at Christmas time. A great opportunity for a night shoot!
