Thanks for all the well wishes about staying safe this weekend with the threat of Hurricane Irene. So far, so good here at the Jersey Shore. It started raining about noon, but that’s about it. We’ve had a few patches of heavy rain, and a few gusts of wind, but the worst has yet to come. Here’s hoping the power stays on so I can continue to share pictures! If not, I’ll see you in a few days when power comes back on!
Before it got too bad out, I decided to drive around town just to see what things were looking like.
Like I said yesterday, we’ve never had a hurricane come through before. It was definitely eerie driving around and seeing businesses in town boarded up and seeing our normally jam-packed roads virtually empty. I drove over the parkway (the backbone of all driving in NJ!) and normally at 1:00pm on a Saturday afternoon (especially basically the last weekend of summer) the parkway would be bumper to bumper with cars packed to the brim ready for their weekend at the beach…but today it was eerily devoid of cars. I looked both ways and saw one lone car off in the distance.
To anyone reading this who is also in Irene’s path- stay safe and dry!
