9.27.11 ~ 270/365

28 Sep

Asbury Park was once a very “happening” city. Unfortunately, in the past 30 or so years, it has declined significantly. The town is trying to revitalize it, but there are still many areas in need of repair. Take, for instance, this field. It is one city block square, and filled with wooden pilings (probably close to 200!), left by an abandoned construction project. One night, an anonymous artist went through and spray painted tiki faces on every single piling. It has sat for many years just like that, as sort of a reminder of what was, and what is yet to come in the town.
