10.9.11 ~ 282/365

10 Oct

My family and I went away for our three day Columbus Day weekend to one of our favorite little Pennsylvania towns- Lancaster, PA. (Well, if you want to get technical…we’re staying in a town called “Intercourse”. How can you not smile when you hear that?). For those who don’t know what’s so special about Lancaster, it’s an area of PA where one of the largest population of Amish still reside.
My family and I have been coming to Lancaster for close to 20 years now. Usually we come in the summer, but this year, we decided to visit in the fall. Besides tons of delicious home-made Amish food (hand rolled pretzels, homemade root beer, chicken and dumplings, homemade ice cream, etc), it is the mother load of fabric stores– right up my mom’s and my alley!
We arrived in Lancaster today, on Sunday, and because of their religious beliefs, there really is nothing open on Sunday, so we spent the day driving around the countryside, and made it a point to visit two old covered bridges- some of the very few remaining, and on the list of historic landmarks.

The inside of that covered bridge, HDR style:

fabulous ~ perfect HDR shot ~ it really brought out the color and texture of the wood making it look it’s age. Nicely done!

Love the color! I love covered bridges… it’s too bad so many of them have perished. =(
