12.25.11 ~ 360/365

26 Dec

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!

One tradition in our house is to bundle up and head out to look at Christmas lights…and one stop must be made at what is known as the “Sheppard House”. For the past 34 years (since before I was born!), he has set up quite the display in his yard. And while it’s nothing epic enough to warrant being on TV, it has such a cute, small-town charm. He doesn’t overdo his yard with lights and music, but rather handmade plywood cutouts of popular characters. Since he’s been doing it for over 3 decades, some of the characters aren’t even recognized by today’s children (we’re talking Trolls, the dinosaurs from “The Land Before Time”, and up until this year’s movie, Smurfs were there, even though they weren’t currently popular). Each year, he adds new characters, which makes for one interesting conglomeration in his yard!
