Hummingbird

29 Aug

For the past 3 years, my mom has hung a hummingbird feeder outside of our kitchen window, and for 3 years I’ve wanted a picture of one of these elusive little birds.  Usually they’re most active around dinnertime, but today, I noticed them around lunchtime (there’s two of them– the female comes around more than the male), and since I really had nothing better to do this afternoon, I set up my tripod, set the focus, and got out my remote.  And sat.

And sat.

And sat.

I guess the hummingbirds sensed my presence because I pretty much sat out on the deck for 3 hours (reading my Popular Photography magazine of course!) and never saw them again.  I left the camera outside and headed in to do other things.  Just before dinner, when I was about to pack it all up, I noticed them coming back, so I took the screen out of the kitchen window and sat at the table for another half hour and finally got some pictures of them!  I waited all day and got nothing, and in that short half hour, I got nearly 100 pictures.  Unfortunately, I had to pack it in after that, or else I might have gotten even more.  Who knows- maybe I’ll try again….someday.

Linking up to Texture Tuesday.  I used both Elevate and Warm Grunge to texture this picture.

Another (un-textured) one just for good measure 🙂

Believe me, I KNOW what you went through today. I was actually sitting late this afternoon waiting and waiting. These adorable, amusing little birds will be leaving us very soon. I was trying to get a few more shots before they disappear until next year. Their little feet are so cute! We have been watching the war of the hummingbirds on the deck lately. Nice job on your shots! Worth the wait.
